Saudi and Iran Conflicts in a cold war style
Cold war got its name after the WWII when two countries United States and Soviet Union became enemies and both were afraid of nuclear war i.e. hot war. In Cold War direct weapons are not used but instead of it the tension at economic, social, governmental level or you can say propaganda between states was established.

These both countries have no tactful relation as on January 2016 Iran attacked Saudi embassy in Tehran.

• In Iran there are mostly
Shia Muslims and Saudi look themselves as the leader of
Sunni Muslims. Saudi has skeptical thinking about the activities of Shias and he labeled Iran for promoting Safavid rule in Muslim world.
• Iran
supports Palestine Sunni Muslims while Saudi supports Syrian rebels.
• The conflicts between two countries are
not only affecting their
foreign matters.
• Both sects thought that their opposite sects are following wrong religious beliefs from decades.
Tomb of Imam Hussein was attacked by Sunni, which was of great importance for Shias. Hazrat Imam Hussein was the Grandson of Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) whose life is considered as a fundamental importance for Shias.
• Their
main conflict arises on
religious domain, as their followers and sects were totally changed. That conflict seems difficult to resolve. King Abdullah of Saudi declared at his time that two countries i.e. Iran and Israel don’t deserve survival.
• Iran and Saudi have
different political orientation and different government styles, this difference also create gap in between them.
• Saudi
monarchy is republican while Iran
government is based on Guardianship of the Islamic Jurists. Minority of Shia in Saudi have complains about discrimination against them.
• Both the countries have oil resources. They also have
conflicting policies about exporting oil.
Nimr baqir al Nimr case
Nimr baqir al Nimr was a sheikh Shia. He was Saudi nationalist. He raised his voice against Saudi Shia discrimination. He was sentenced to death in Saudi Criminal court by declaring him that he did not follow Saudi rules and coming out against their security forces in October 2014.
Iran and Saudi show rivalry even in the football matches as they never played without conflict or friendly manner. They are tug-to-war in every aspect of their lives.
Iran Embassy Bombing
Iran declared that in 2016, Saudi attacked on their embassy in Yemen and as a result of it many of them are wounded.
Ban on hajj by Iran
Iran banned on performing hajj after the Mina Stampede, the incident of 2015 in which almost 2000 pilgrims were died in Mina during the performance on hajj. And mostly were Shia. That hajj was called as the deadliest hajj disaster in the Saudi History. Iran ascribed it as the incompetency and inadequacy of Saudi government.
Jeddah Airport Incident
In 2015, it was reported that two Iranian Pilgrims were sexually harassed by the police of Saudi at the time hajj at airport. They raised their voices against harassment cases and stop performing their hajj activities. They passed a bill for this abusive issue against Saudi. Iranian recorded their protest in front of the embassy of Saudi in Tehran.
Yemini Crises Deadlock
Both the countries were taking active part in Yemini crises. In Yemini city two Iranian Officer were arrested.
